Funds for Emergency Communications
New York’s Governor Cuomo recently announced that $75 million in state grant Round 3 funding will be available through Statewide Interoperability Communications Grants (SICG) to help 23 counties strengthen and improve their emergency communication systems. NIDDK Releases Two Funding Notices
The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) on August 9th issued two Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOA). The first Funding Announcement (RFA-DK -13-022) seeks to develop, refine, and pilot test innovative strategies to improve diabetes management in young children with Type 1 diabetes that are five years old and under. NIDDK intends to commit $8 million in FY 2014 to fund 3-4 awards. (more…)
Business Plan for FirstNet
The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) an independent entity within the Department of Commerce’s NTIA, has developed a business plan for FY 14. FirstNet has also adopted a $194 million budget to support plans and priorities to develop the nationwide broadband network dedicated to public safety. FirstNet will be built using LTE, the most advanced wireless technology available today. (more…)
NIH Study on Childhood Epilepsies
More than 2 million people in the U.S. suffer from epilepsies and research studies show that infants and children have a greater chance of having the disorder than adults. Some studies have been able to find genes associated with rare inherited forms of epilepsy but finding genes associated with the majority of epilepsies has been difficult. (more…)

FDA Releases RF Wireless Guidance
FDA issued their “Guidance for Industry for Radio Frequency Wireless Technology in Medical Devices” on August 14, 2013. This guidance document highlights and discusses RF wireless technology considerations that should be taken into account to help provide for the safe and effective use of these medical devices. These considerations include selecting wireless technology, quality of service, coexistence, security, and electromagnetic compatibility. (more…)
