Support for Virtual Medical Center

On May 10th the Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation, along with the Assistant Program Manager for Medical Simulations, and the Veterans Health Administration Team, issued a questionnaire so that firms and companies could indicate their interest and capability to establish a Virtual Medical Center (VMC). Briefing on Dual Eligibles

According to Lynda Flower, a Senior Strategic Policy Advisor for the health team at AARP’s Public Policy Institute, two-thirds of the states are integrating Medicare and Medicaid services for dual eligibles. Today, roughly 10.2 million peoples are dually eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare services and 7.4 million are eligible for both Medicare and full Medicaid benefits typically referred to as full benefit duals. Technology Helping Veterans

Researchers at the VA’s San Diego Healthcare System finds therapy delivered via video conferencing to be very effective in treating PTSD in veterans. According to the May issue of “VA Research Currents”, the VA studied 207 veterans in one of the largest studies done in the VA to test new ways of delivering evidence-based psychotherapy for veterans with PTSD. Developing Pathogen Testing Device

Dr. Krisnan Chittur, a Chemical Engineering Professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville is designing a device to provide physicians one hour pathogen testing capabilities. The doctor can draw blood or take swab samples and send them to the lab. While waiting for the results, the patient may be treated based on an assessment of observed symptoms which sometimes can be less accurate than test results. (more…)

Arizona Agency Issues RFP

The Arizona Strategic Enterprise Technology (ASET) office is responsible for implementing the ONC’s $9.3 million HIE cooperative agreement award for the state.  ASET launched the HIE Enterprise Grant Program on April 22, 2013 to help large healthcare organizations standardize and promote interoperability for sharing clinical data.
