The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) within NIH continues to push the boundaries of innovation. The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) a flagship program that NHGRI co-funds with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) is doing research to understand the molecular basis of cancer. This is being done by carefully examining the genomes of individual cancers looking specifically for alterations in DNA and RNA and how these changes can drive the disease. (more…)
Army Improving CRI
Researchers at the Army Institute of Surgical Research (ISR) in San Antonio and at Fort Sam Houston Texas are improving medical monitors that have been used in clinics and hospitals since the early 1970s helping physicians and medical staffs assess a patient’s condition. The Compensatory Reserve Index (CRI) is a new algorithm that uses the information obtained from a standard pulse oximeter and gauges whether a patient requires resuscitation or immediate medical attention. Vidyo & ANTHC Partnering
Vidyo, Inc. and the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) are partnering to add Vidyo’s visual communications to ANTHC’s existing statewide telehealth network called AFHCAN. Integrating DOD & VA Records
Frank Kendall, Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics responsible for DOD’s electronic healthcare records integration with the VA is focusing on two issues. The first issue requires the agencies to seamlessly integrate their health-record sharing so records so that service members are able to transfer smoothly to the VA system as they leave active duty. $485 M to Expand Rural Broadband
Today, almost 15 million Americans, most of them living in rural areas lack broadband. The FCC just announced that the second release of Phase I funds for the Connect American Fund will offer up to $485 million to expand broadband in rural America for both fixed and mobile broadband expansion in unserved areas.
