Mayo Study Underway

Continuity of care is a problem when thousands of volunteer medical relief groups offer care to patients and assistance to understaffed medical teams in remote underdeveloped and rural locations worldwide. Blake Fechtel MD, and PhD student at Mayo Clinic is working in a poor and secluded area of Honduras conducting a 13 month study on the use of telemedicine and how it can be used to maintain a relationship with remote patients. Device to Identify Cardiac Arrhythmias

Medtronic Inc. is funding a study so that a multidisciplinary group of University of Cincinnati (UC) researchers will be able to conduct a clinical trial to determine if an implantable device can identify undetected heart rhythm abnormalities in hemodialysis patients. This study could also identify a link between heart rhythm abnormalities and a variety of electrolyte levels in the patient’s blood and the solution used during the dialysis process. (more…)

Virtual Care Service Launched

On May 6th at the ATA 2013 Conference held in Austin, Seattle-based Carena demonstrated how an integrated 24/7 virtual medicine service can help hospital systems and primary care clinics extend hours and access without adding staff or new facilities. The services provide routine and urgent care healthcare appointments by phone and webcam to patients in hospital systems and primary care clinics. (more…)

HRSA to Help HD Patients

On May 6th, HRSA’s National Hansen’s Disease Program released a Presolicitation for Small Businesses to be aware that a full solicitation will be issued on or about May 30, 2013 to procure health data management services. At that time, HRSA will look for small businesses able to provide the data management services needed to assist with the Ambulatory Care and Private Physician Programs. The Solicitation is expected to have funding of $7 million as a total small business set-aside. (more…)

SBA Issues Program Announcement

SBA’s Office of Investment and Innovation within the Office of Technology on May 6th issued the FY 2013 “Federal and State Technology Partnership Program” (FAST) announcement so that states will be able to provide small technology firms with grants to innovate and commercialize new technology.
