New Partnership to Help Doctors

An Alliance formed between Medweb and Docbook MD just launched a revolutionary new product in compliance with HIPPA called “Docbook Gateway “an instant messaging application that will break the communication barriers between physicians. “Docbook Gateway” enables physicians, first responders, and other healthcare providers to share secure urgent labs, images, and reports no matter what hospital system they use or where they are located with the information going to the doctor’s smartphone or windows 8 tablet in real-time using informatics protocols HL7, DICOM, and IHE. A single button interface lets the physician browse routine reports or labs at any time.

Dr. Steven Roberts, MD in Tyler Texas, said, “When suggesting a consult in a different specialty to a patient, I’ll dial up that specialist and discuss the options the patient has while looking at the picture and the doctor’s resume. The patient feels he knows something about the consultant and this loosens up the early stages of the first visit.”

Dr. George Lai, MD in Alameda-Contra Costa California specializing in nephrology stresses that it is vital that images be securely transmitted. He says, “I pride myself in being able to take care of my patients, but sometimes we need help from our colleagues and need to be able to transmit information securely.”

During a visit to the hemodialysis unit on one particular day, Dr. Lai saw a patient who had an aggravated vascular access which he felt needed immediate attention. With the use of Docbook MD, he was able to take a picture of the wound with his phone, and send it to a vascular surgeon who also had DocbookMD.  The consulting doctor looked at the picture and said the patient should be sent to his office. After the examination, the patient was admitted to the hospital to have the graft removed.
