AHRQ Releases New Guide
The new guide issued May 2013 developed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) outlines a framework for primary care practices that want to connect to regional health information exchanges. “Regional Health eDecisions: A Guide to Connecting Health Information Exchange in Primary Care” establishes a blueprint assessing organizations readiness for connecting an EHR to a RHIO. State Systems to Help in Emergencies
New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that New York is launching a statewide emergency tracking system referred to as the “New York State Evacuation of Facilities in Disasters System” or referred to as NYS e-FINDS. The system is in place to help patients and residents when healthcare and human services facilities are forced to evacuate as a result of a natural disaster. (more…)

Emergency Apps to Save Lives
A research team led by Ram Dantu at the University of North Texas sees the growth of cell phones and smartphone usage as an opportunity to improve responses to 911calls. With funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Dantu’s team has designed several innovative smartphone apps that virtually place 911 operators at the scene of an emergency allowing them to quickly and accurately collect information and assist victims. DOD Releases FOA
The Defense Medical Research and Development Program (DMRDP) within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs is a core research program within DOD and is the focal point for the Defense Health Program’s research, development, test, and evaluation funds.
