The pilot project named the Veteran Initiated Coordination & Transformation of Rural Health Information Exchange or referred to as VICTOR-HIE is underway. The project is a collaboration between the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and their Office of Rural Health (ORH), the Office of the National Coordinator for HIT within HHS, plus non VHA rural community health partners. MPI to Develop Training
DOD’s Medical Practice Initiative (MPI) with a major interest in Team Communications Training Research has issued a funding notice for FY 14. State Exchanges Sharing Info
The Illinois Health Information Exchange (ILHIE) has signed a data sharing agreement with Missouri Health Connection (MHC) to provide more patient information to physicians in both states. This data sharing is important for states that border each other such as Illinois and Missouri, since patients frequently cross state lines to receive care. (more…)
Monitoring System Receives Clearance
Sense4Baby Inc. developer of a remote wireless maternal/fetal heart rate monitoring system that performs non-stress testing for high-risk pregnancies on a smartphone or tablet has received 510 (k) clearance from FDA and a CE mark from the European Commission to commercialize the medical device. The device was originally developed at the Gary and Mary West health Institute and licensed to Sense4Baby Inc. in March 2013. (more…)
FAU Signs Licensing Agreement
Florida Atlantic University (FAU) signed a licensing agreement with EyeLife AS, a company located in Oslo, Norway for the rights to a recently patented technology developed by FAU professor. The technology will replace current cart-based and hand-held ultrasound products with a higher resolution point-of-care ultrasound for diagnostics. (more…)
U.S Broadband Activities
According to FCC Commissioner Mignon L. Clyburn tens of millions of Americans are still unconnected at home and nearly 15 million Americans can’t get broadband because of lack of infrastructure. Only 50 percent of rural Americans, 35 percent of the elderly, 42 percent of people living with disabilities, 59 percent of African Americans, and 49 percent of Latinos have broadband service at home.
