Florida Atlantic University (FAU) signed a licensing agreement with EyeLife AS, a company located in Oslo, Norway for the rights to a recently patented technology developed by FAU professor. The technology will replace current cart-based and hand-held ultrasound products with a higher resolution point-of-care ultrasound for diagnostics.
The device is wireless so that the software can be downloaded on any PC, notebook, or tablet device including smartphones which makes the device portable and practical for use in any medical office or field medical site.
Since the device is wireless, it can be used by emergency room physicians, EMTs, and other first responders, sport medicine professionals, and any other healthcare professional requiring quick visualization. Anesthesiologists could possibly use the device to monitor the passage of a needle as it passes through the skin during the injection itself.
In addition, due to the wireless capability, physicians do not have to invest in costly bulky machinery. They can simply download the ultrasound software onto their existing office technology.
