GAO Issues Study on HRSA

In December, GAO issued “Review of Internal Communication Mechanisms, Staffing, and Use of Contracts” (GAO-14-52), a study conducted to review HRSA’s management and operations. HRSA as part of HHS was established in 1982 and provides funding to a wide variety of programs. Since HRSA has appreciably expanded their programs in recent years, GAO was asked to undertake the study. (more…)

Stem Cell Research in Space

NASA and the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space (CASIS) are participating in research aboard the International Space Station (ISS) that could lead to new stem cell-based therapies for medical conditions that people face on Earth but also in space. Scientists are taking advantage of the space station’s microgravity environment and location in low Earth orbit to study the properties of non-embryonic stem cells. (more…)

Amendment Signed into Law

The 2014 National Defense Authorization Act recently signed into law authorizes funding and sets policy for the Department of Defense.  Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson from Pennsylvania sponsored an amendment included in the legislation that dealt with the Transitional Assistance Management Program (TAMP). The next year will bring highly accelerated reform to our healthcare ecosystem. Monumental changes are underway, driven jointly by the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, millions of newly-eligible Americans flooding an already heavily burdened health care system, and  a continued drive to strike the balance between increasing access to a limited pool of providers and addressing costs which continue to rise.
