Vulnerabilities in EHRs

The HHS Office of the Inspector General on January 7 released the report “CMS and Its Contractors Have Adopted Few Program Integrity Practices to Address Vulnerabilities in EHRs”. The report found that certain EHR technology features may be used to mask true authorship of the medical record and distort information to inflate healthcare claims. (more…)

Tech Helping Stroke Patients

University of Virginia (UVA) clinicians are working through UVA’s USEED fundraising program to raise $10,000 to equip two additional local ambulances with the iTREAT mobile telemedicine kit. The plan is to connect paramedics through a secure video link with UVA’s specially trained stroke neurologists and emergency medicine physicians to diagnose stroke patients while they are in the ambulance. Market Export Program Offered

The International Trade Administration (ITA) within the Department of Commerce has posted a funding announcement for the 2014 Market Development Cooperator Program (MDCP).  The funding goes to help underwrite the start-up costs for new foreign market development projects that industry organizations are often reluctant to undertake without federal government support. Developing Global Supply Chain

A medical logistic division has been established within DOD’s new Defense Health Agency (DHA) to develop an efficient global supply chain. Since October 1, 2013, DHA has been managing many of the administrative and shared services functions for the Army, Navy, and Air Force medical departments that includes health IT, pharmacy operations, and medical logistics.
