Technology in North Carolina

The Center for Rural Health Innovation and County Cablevision invited AMD Global Telemedicine to participate in a program to educate public officials, healthcare practitioners, and local citizens on the benefits of telemedicine to use in Mitchell and Yancey Counties in Western North Carolina. The Western part of the state is faced with a persistent shortage of qualified health professionals and higher rates of morbidity and mortality for preventable diseases. (more…)

Rural Health in NY’s North Country

The North Country in New York State is a beautiful region but access to healthcare is increasingly difficult and under growing stress. The North Country is the state’s most sparsely populated region and is categorized as a rural area with intense winter weather. Reducing Wait Time for Consults

The Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) recently deployed Medweb’s SmartConsult Teledermatology telemedicine application across the province of Ontario, Canada via OTN’s TeledermSF program. The area covers over 415,000 square miles which is the size of Texas and Montana combined with a population of 13.5 million residents. (more…)

Faster Review for Specific Devices

FDA just released a draft document proposing that a new “Expedited Access Program” (EAP) be established to handle unmet medical needs for life threatening or irreversibly debilitating diseases or conditions that are subject to premarket approval applications. FDA believes that the EAP will help patients have more timely access to these medical devices by expediting their development, assessment, and review.  (more…)

Kentucky Issues RFI

Today, only about half of Kentucky’s households use broadband internet service, and nearly one-quarter can’t access broadband at all,” reports Kentucky’s Governor Steve Beshear. “We’re going to fix that with an ambitious plan to extend broadband access that will initially focus on underserved areas in eastern Kentucky. The broadband project will help businesses, educators, and healthcare facilities share EMRs and first responders will be able to communicate in emergency situations.” (more…)
