HHS Funding Health Centers

HHS has made grants for $150 million available through the Affordable Care Act to support 236 new health center sites across the country to help care for about 1.25 million additional patients. “We are committed to providing more people across the country with the quality patient-centered care they deserve”, said Secretary Sebellius. RTI’s New Seizure Alert System

Approximately 2 million people including 400,000 children in the U.S are being treated for epilepsy and one-third continue to have seizures despite treatment. Currently, there are no reliable home-based monitoring devices available in the U.S to assist caregivers. To address this important caregiver need, RTI International is developing a prototype mobile seizure alert system to help epilepsy patients and their families cope with seizures. (more…)

VA Seeks Technology Partner

The Veterans Administration is looking for a partner to further develop and commercialize the “Ventilation Feedback System” to be used to provide the therapy for chronic lung disease. This system will be able to help patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and help them adopt more efficient breathing patterns while exercising. (more…)
