Topic for Report: Individual Health
According to the new JASON group report called “Data for Individual Health” a learning health system is needed to connect the medical system with broader societal inputs to link health and wellness to healthcare. EHRs and PHRs play an important role but there is still a level of data access, integration, and scalability that goes well beyond the interoperability of EHR systems that needs to focus specifically on the health of individuals. Bill Introduced to Cut Red Tape
Senators Michael Bennet (D-CO) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT) recently introduced a bipartisan bill to cut the red tape at FDA to help boost innovation in health IT. The “Medical Electronic Data Technology Enhancement for Consumers’ Health” (MEDTECH) Act (S.2977) would exempt low-risk medical software and mobile apps from FDA regulation and provide greater certainty regarding the software that should be regulated by the agency to protect consumers.
