HealthSpot, a Dublin Ohio start-up announced that they have developed a strategic partnership with MedAvail Technologies Inc., the creator of the “MedAvail MedCenter™ telepharmacy kiosk. The collaboration will enable HealthSpot station locations to provide high quality accessible pharmacy services in addition to acute care telehealth services in a location where there is no retail pharmacy. Forecast for Newborn Clearinghouse

HRSA’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau plans to release a funding notice to solicit proposals to develop a Newborn Screening Clearinghouse. Although resources and information related to newborn screening and genetics exists, much of the information is not easily accessible and gaps in knowledge are present. The Clearinghouse is legislatively mandated as part of the Newborn Screening Saves Lives Act. (more…)

Demo to Help Frontier Communities

CMS on January 31 released a Request for Applications (RFA) for their “Frontier Community Health Integration Demonstration Project (FCHID) in collaboration with HRSA’s Office of Rural Health Policy. The FCHID aims to develop and test new models of integrated coordinated healthcare in the most sparsely populated rural counties to improve health outcomes and to reduce Medicare Expenditures. Telemedicine Device Developed

A new portable telemedicine device has been developed enabling medics to monitor vital signs and communicate with other medics. The device developed by UK-based Remote Diagnostic Technologies (RDT) with the support of the European Space Agency (ESA), offers a lifeline even to the remotest areas on Earth via satellite communications. NY Addressing Healthcare Needs

On January 8th, New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo released the document “Building on Success” describing some of the healthcare needs for New York state in 2014-2015. The document reports that the Medicaid Redesign Team (MRT) in the State is increasing Medicaid funding. This funding is consistent with the spending cap and reflects the continuation of the Medicaid spending cap enacted in 2011-2012. (more…)

Effectively Using eHealth Services

Lisa Lindgren, Director for eEmergency at Avera Health in Sioux Falls, South Dakota discussed Avera Health’s eCARE and eEmergency services at the North Dakota Heath Care Reform Review Committee meeting held in November.
