HealthSpot & MedAvail Partnering

HealthSpot, a Dublin Ohio start-up announced that they have developed a strategic partnership with MedAvail Technologies Inc., the creator of the “MedAvail MedCenter™ telepharmacy kiosk. The collaboration will enable HealthSpot station locations to provide high quality accessible pharmacy services in addition to acute care telehealth services in a location where there is no retail pharmacy.

The HealthSpot stations are private walk-in kiosks to enable patients to have immediate access to medical diagnostics from board-certified doctors via high-definition video conferencing and interactive digital telehealth tools.

As HealthSpot stations are deployed in convenient locations across the country, consumers will have more immediate options and be able to have their pharmaceutical needs met quickly and efficiently. This new use of technology will enable one stop visits for patients for medical and pharmaceutical needs.

To help more people, each HealthSpot station will be co-located with a MedAvail MedCenter telepharmacy kiosk which is currently in pilot phase at locations in Illinois. The MedCenter will be able to dispense prescription drugs and over-the-counter medications via live, two-way conferencing with a pharmacist after a visit with a provider inside the HealthSpot station. At the completion of the visit, the provider can send an e-prescription to the MedAvail MedCenter to be filled.

It is anticipated that the MedCenter will become the first after-hours pharmacy operation complete with a centralized pharmacy located in a call center environment. Pilot programs are going to be deployed in the U.S. Canada, and Europe by mid-2014.

Market growth for the MedCenter is extremely promising not only in the U.S. but also globally. U.S pharmacy chains are adding stores, extending pharmacy hours, using mail order, so that pharmacies need to be able to establish a low cost physical presence.

There are numerous market opportunities for the pharmacy market as Med Centers will soon be located in retail stores, hospitals, urgent care centers, medical office buildings, dialysis clinics, employment sites, and college campuses. Global Market opportunities are also going to open up since pharmacies are underpenetrated as compared to the U.S. So far, interest has been expressed in Singapore, South Africa, Israel, Indonesia, and Japan.
