Africa’s Maternal and Child Health
Qualcomm Inc., through their Wireless Reach initiative has teamed up to develop and deploy a wireless EMR system to use in Nigeria by working with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) within the Federal Ministry of Health. Others involved include the Vecna Cares Charitable Trust, the nonprofit arm of Vecna Technologies, InStrat Global Health Solutions, a turnkey healthcare solutions provider, and Etisalat, a Nigerian telecommunications operator. HHS Budget Request for HIT
The President’s proposed FY 2015 Budget request for the HHS Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT is $75 million which is $14 million above FY 2014. The proposed budget supports meaningful use programs and a national network of organizations to assist over 145,000 providers, including over 44 percent of the nation’s total primary care providers. Connect2Health Task Force Announced
FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler has announced the formation of a new Commission Task Force referred to as CONNECT2Health to discuss critical broadband, advanced technology, and health issues. Chairman Wheeler announced that Michele Ellison will be Chair of the Task Force and intends to name her Deputy General Counsel. Previously, she served as Chief of the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau. NATO & Russia Developing Telemedicine
NATO and Russia are working together on a multinational system using telecommunications to provide healthcare at a distance using an international network of medical specialists.
