China’s HIT VC Funding Higher
Mercom Capital Group www.mercomcapital.com just released their Q2 2016 Healthcare IT/Digital Health Funding Report. The report shows that Venture Capital (VC) funding reached new heights at $1.6 billion resulting in close to $3 billion raised in 286 deals in the first half of the year. This is a 50 percent increase as compared to the nearly $2 billion raised during the same period in 2015. (more…)
Funds for Rural Demo Project
The Department of Homeland Security www.dhs.gov on July 6, 2016 released a grant notice www.grants.gov for the “Rural Emergency Medical Communications Demonstration Project” (REMCDP) with up to $2,000,000 to be awarded. REMCDP will provide funding to a public or state controlled institution of higher education which also must house an established emergency communications center to take part in the demonstration project. VA Expands Telehealth to SVHs
In an article published in the Veterans Administration’s newsletter “The Rural Connection Spring 2016” www.ruralhealth.va.gov/news, state governments through the years have established State Veterans Homes (SVH). SVHs primarily help veterans disabled by age, disease, and injury but are incapable of earning a living. More than half of the state-run SVHs are located in rural communities. (more…)
White Papers Discuss Drug Progress

Margolis Center for Health Policy http://healthpolicy.duke.edu recently published three white papers focusing on improve the tools and methods that underpin the development of innovative drugs to treat a variety of diseases and condition. Bill Would Lower Costs
Bipartisan legislation was recently introduced to lower costs for life saving drugs by Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) along with Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH) www.brown.senate.gov and John McCain (R-AZ) www.mccain.senate.gov. The bill “Price Relief, Innovation and Competition for Essential Drugs” to be called the PRICED Act www.congress.gov would provide opportunity for more biologics to enter the market place and drive down costs. Developing Algorithm at MIT
MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory (MIT LL) www.ll.mit.edu, a federally funded R&D center, is developing a computer algorithm to identify vocal biomarkers to help diagnose mild traumatic brain injuries or concussions. The U.S Army Medical Materiel Agency (USAMMA), has partnered with the MIT LL to help evaluate, test, and validate the algorithm. (more…)
