Systems & Tools to Support CDC

CDC recently awarded Northrop Grumman www.northropgrumman.com $52.7 million to provide a range of technical services for digital tools and systems to support the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP) http://chronicdisease/index.htm at CDC.

NCCDPHP supports the Office of Informatics and Information Resource Management which is responsible for IT services, application development support, tools, procedures, and portfolio management to support the system.

To optimize public health’s efficiency and effectiveness, CDC recommends coordinating chronic disease prevention efforts in four key areas:

  • Epidemiology and surveillance to provide essential data to define and prioritize public health problems, identify populations most affected, guide solutions, monitor progress, and speed reporting to state cancer registries
  • Environmental approaches to promote health and supports healthy behaviors across the U.S, in states and communities
  • Health care system interventions so government and community public health organizations can conduct surveillance on high priority health outcomes, and remove barriers to ensure delivery of care to hardest-to reach populations
  • Community programs linked to clinical services so communities can increase the effective use of chronic disease self-management programs through the national diabetes prevention program, provide smoking cessation services, and establish partnerships with hospitals, healthcare providers, and communities
