State’s Rural Health Grant Opportunity

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) on September 19, 2013 announced that DHHS is going to fund the “Rural Health Center Operational Grant Program”. The State’s Office of Rural Health and Community Care (ORHCC) will award the grants to assist underserved communities and populations and help this population develop innovative strategies to use to improve access, quality, and cost effectiveness. FIC’s mHealth Future Funding

The Fogarty International Center has future plans to publish Funding Notice (NOT-TW-13-011) seeking research and development on adapting mobile health technology to use in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMIC). Medical Device Prices Trending Lower

A new study released at the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) Med Tech Conference held September 23-25, points out that pricing trends for implantable medical devices show that average prices have declined significantly for major categories of implantable medical devices from 2007 through 2011. In that period, the seven largest categories of implantable medical devices saw substantial declines in average selling prices paid by hospitals on both a nominal and inflation-adjusted basis. $14.5M in Funding for Hospitals

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick announced that the state is providing $14.5 million to go to 57 hospitals across the state. The funding will be used to help hospitals including critical access hospitals and community health centers to transition to integrated delivery systems. The funding was included in the FY 13 state budget and the awards are supported by federal matching funds. (more…)

Tech Saving Mothers & Babies

Africare, a non-governmental organization is working in partnership with the people in Africa to build sustainable healthy and productive communities. One of their objectives is to increase the demand and access to high quality maternal and neonatal services for women living in remote areas of Senegal. The hope is to find potential problems early and be able to make quick referrals to centers that are equipped to manage emergency obstetric care. (more…)
