Foundations to Award Grants

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Public Health Services and Systems Research (PHSSR) program seeks applications for projects. Today, public health delivery systems can vary widely across the U.S as do programs, services, and policies implemented through these systems. Studying the variations in public health delivery can determine what delivery system characteristics and public health strategies work best.

The objective is to design projects to strengthen the evidence base for what works in public healthcare administration, financing, and the delivery of care as well as subsequent impact on population health. Two specific areas have been identified as research priorities. One area involves public health costs, quality, and value, and the other research area addresses bridging public health and healthcare systems.

RWJF is planning to award grants for approximately $3.2 million for up to nine studies for $350,000 for 24 months to qualified research projects

Eligible organizations must be either U.S based public entities or organizations considered tax exempt. Preference will be given to proposals submitted by multidisciplinary teams, public health practitioners, and policymakers through established public health agencies, organizations, and networks.

To apply, first register at https://my.rwjf.org and then go to www.rwjf.org/cfp/phs4 and use the Apply Online link. For more information, email Emily Patrick Program Assistant at phssr@nnphi.org or call (504) 224-9043.

In another grant opportunity, the National Institute for Health Care Management Foundation (NIHCM), a nonprofit, nonpartisan research, and educational foundation seeks Letters of Inquiry for innovative research to advance the knowledge base in healthcare financing, delivery, management, and/or policy.

For the 2014-2015 funding cycle, the foundation will award three to five grants totaling $250,000 for studies to yield insights on to how to reduce spending, improve the quality of care, and/or how to expand access to insurance coverage and healthcare services. Grant amounts will be determined on a project-by-project basis.

Eligible applicants can include individual researchers and all types of organizations and institutions, including both nonprofit and for profit entities. Multiple organizations may apply jointly, but one must be named as the principal organization and the other must have a subcontract relationship with that organization.

Letters of Inquiry must be submitted by July 14, 2014. Full ten page proposals will be accepted from a small number of applicants in September 2014 with winners to be announced November 2014 for projects starting in 2015.
