The Veterans Affairs New England Healthcare System located at the West Haven VAMC in Connecticut posted an announcement on www.fbo.gov on May 29, 2014 explaining that the VAMC plans to negotiate a sole source firm fixed contract with Champion Medical Technologies. The contract would be for one new unique device identifier, called the “UDI Tracker” to be used by the West Haven VAMC Department of Surgery.
The UDI bar code system automatically scans and stores all pertinent tissue information. The system streamlines repetitive processes to allow the user to be able to allocate tissues while scheduling cases, but also to view valuable tissue information during a case along with other data. The system alerts users to expiring tissues, improves tissue utilization, prevents waste, and enables the tissue manager to expertly manage the inventory.
The notice is not a request for competitive proposals, however, parties may if they choose express their interest in the potential contract no later than June 11, 2014. The responses received will also be used to determine whether or not to conduct a competitive procurement.
