Device to Help Children Hear

A Los Angeles team of scientists and surgeons from Keck Medicine of USC, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), and Huntington Medical Research Institutes reports that sound registering in the brain of a deaf Canadian boy for the first time after doctors activated a hearing device that had been surgically implanted in his brainstem. Help for the Mentally Ill

The District of Columbia’s Department of Health Care Finance (DHCF) and the Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) have partnered to develop a Health Home State Plan benefit that will target individuals with severe and persistent mental illness to help improve health outcomes. NJ’s Health Department Awards Grants

The New Jersey Department of Health (DOH) awarded $612,000 in grants to community-based agencies to enable patients to better manage chronic conditions. DOH awarded $415,000 to the Trenton Health Team (THT) to use health IT to help find better ways to use the Clinical Decision Support (CDS) system to care for patients faced with diabetes and hypertension. HIT for Quality Coordinated Care

Washington State Collecting Data

Officials in the State of Washington are very interested in the response to the “Digital States Survey 2014” that is conducted every two years by the Center for Digital Government and Digital States Performance Institute, a division of eRepublic. Some of the results in the most recent state survey touched on cybersecurity, open data, disaster recovery, cloud computing, healthcare, mobile applications, plus a number of other areas with the information being circulated.
