Pediatric Cardiology Partnership

A new state-of-the-art facility dedicated to pediatric cardiac imaging and intervention is going to be co-established by NIH and Children’s National Medical Center in Washington D.C. NIHB’s REC Achieving Goals

LLNL Looking for Technology Partners

Researchers at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) have developed their Microbial Detection Array (LLMDA) technology to detect bacteria, viruses, and other organisms.

Emerging known and unknown pathogens create threats to public health so the ability to rapidly detect and characterize microbial agents is critically needed to prevent and respond to disease outbreaks. This technology can also be used to help determine the safety of products, useful for molecular diagnostics, homeland security, and for forensics.

Existing detection technologies are based on nucleic acid amplification of sequences from one or a small set of organisms. While they are able to rapidly identify selected pathogens at the species or strain level, they can’t be multiplexed to the degree required to detect hundreds to thousands of different organisms.

The laboratory has developed the probes for the microarray and the software to analyze the microarray data and now LLNL is looking for partners to license as well as partners to develop additional capabilities.

MedicaSoft Joins OSEHRA Community

The Open Source Electronic Health Record Agent (OSEHRA), a non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating innovation in EHR software has just announced that MedicaSoft, LLC has joined the OSEHRA community as a Corporate Member.

“The advancement of health IT through the use of open source best practices is a pressing challenge that will require many new software tools, skill sets, and organizational processes,” said Dr. Seong Ki Mun, OSEHRA CEO and President. “We look forward to partnering with MedicaSoft to accelerate innovation in health IT both in the U.S. and internationally.”

This follows the April 25, 2013 announcement by MedicaSoft that Mike O’Neill, former Senior Advisor at the Department of Veterans Affairs has joined the firm as their new CEO. O’Neill, an expert in the introduction of new technologies into care environments, joins MedicaSoft after three years with the VA.

At the VA, he was a member of the VA Center for Innovation founding team and  led programs introducing technology innovations and business practices in healthcare and claims processing in telehealth and the VA’s Blue Button personal health record. He also spearheaded VA’s open source EHRs initiative and served on the OSEHRA board of Directors.

“Hospitals and clinicians often struggle to adapt information technology to achieve better results, lower costs, and accurately document care. The power and flexibility of open source software can help achieve those outcomes,” said O’Neill.

MedicSoft as part of OSEHRA’s Corporate Forum has joined the other members of the Forum that includes InterSystems, Inc., DSS, Inc., Medsphere Systems Corporation, Northrop Grumman Corporation, AEGIS.net, Inc., The MITRE Corporation, AssureRX Health Inc., Oroville Hospital, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and Spin Systems, Inc.

Panel to Highlight WLSA Summit

With an emphasis on encouraging wider adoption of mobile health technology, The Wireless-Life Sciences Alliance’s Eighth Annual Convergence Summit on Mobile Health May 28-30 at the Omni San Diego Hotel will highlight a panel discussion on the “Engaged Health Consumer” slated for May 30th the last day of the event.

The “Engaged Health Consumer” panel discussion will link the Summit’s theme directly to consumers, who use and benefit from myriad wireless health innovations on a widening array of technology devices, including desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones, and TVs.
