NIH Funds Support eMERGE
Awards from NIH www.nih.gov are going to support research incorporating DNA Sequence information into EMRs. The awards will help researchers work with the “Electronic Medical Records and Genomics (eMERGE) Network www.genome.gov/27540473 to better understand the genomic basis of disease by combining DNA biorepositories with EMRs to improve genetic research. More Broadband for Rural America
According to the FCC’s latest Broadband progress report, nearly one in three rural Americans lack access to broadband as compared to only one in 100 urban Americans. It was recently announced that ten telecommunications carriers have accepted $1.5 billion in annual support from the Connect America Fund www.fcc.gov/encyclopedia/connecting-america. The funding is to be used to expand and support broadband for nearly 7.3 million rural consumers in 45 states and one territory. (more…)

Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) represents one out of every seven children in California or about 1.4 million children. CSHCN are children who have, or are at risk for chronic physical developmental, behavioral, or emotional conditions, and who require health and related services beyond that typically required by children. HRSA to Award Funds to Health Centers
Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) www.hrsa.gov awarded $63 million in ACA funding to expand quality improvement systems in 1,153 health centers in fifty states, the District of Columbia and seven U.S. territories. Health Centers will use the funds to expand current quality improvement systems and infrastructure and improve primary care service delivery in the communities that they serve. (more…)
