Chronic conditions are driving the majority of healthcare costs and this burden is only expected to rise. Therefore a shift from reactive to proactive management of chronic diseases is necessary to improve outcomes and reduce costs. Hospital Integrating PET-MRI Scans
University of Rochester Medicine’s www.urmc.rochester.edu Golisano Children’s Hospital www.urmc.rochester.edu/chilrens-hospital.aspx recently became the first children’s hospital in the country to administer an integrated PET-MRI scan to a patient. The integrated PET-MRI scanner combines two common imaging procedures into one. This reduces radiation exposure to a minimum and allows for a dual measurement of structure and metabolism. (more…)

HRSA Awards Grant to University
HRSA www.hrsa.gov has awarded $1.1 million to the University of Missouri, School of Medicine http://medicine.missouri.edu to pilot a new project. The project “Aligning Residency Education with Clinical Practice Transformation” will teach family medicine resident physicians to work as team in order to provide comprehensive primary care to patients throughout their lifetime while using the concept of patient-centered medical homes. $23.4 Million for DLT Grants
USDA is investing $23.4 million in 75 projects across 31 states and the Western Pacific to expand distance learning and telemedicine opportunities in rural areas. The grants provided through the USDA Rural Development’s Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) program www.rd.usda.gov/programs-services/distance-learning-telemedicine-grants may be used to purchase equipment to provide educational and telemedicine services to rural communities.
