10th Annual Connected Health Symposium Scheduled For October; Call for Demonstrations Announced

This year marks a significant milestone for the Partners Healthcare Center for Connected Health. The organization will be hosting its 10th Annual Connected Health Symposium with a theme of  “Collaborations and Innovations to Engage Patients and Elevate Care.”

The Symposium, which brings together leaders in the fields of health care delivery and design, academics, and technology, will be held October 24-25 in Boston at the Seaport Hotel and World Trade Center. (more…)

Device for Paralyzed Veterans

The Technology Transfer Program at the VA is developing an adjustable mouth stick stylus to allow users to effectively use and control tablet computer devices. This technology could benefit individuals with paralysis including those suffering from a stroke or spinal cord injuries. (more…)

Update on UTHealth Device

Scientists at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) have developed a device that measures coagulation parameters within a sample of clotting blood. Dr. Charles S. Cox, Jr, Dr. Brijesh Gill, and Kevin Aroom, scientists at UTHealth developed the device to allow the administration of bedside coagulation tests and reduce unnecessary blood transfusions. The device referred to as “MEMS Based Blood Coagulometer” is available for licensing.  (more…)

RWJF Announces $120,000 Challenge

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) just launched a competition among technology developers to improve consumer understanding by using of data to compare hospital prices. Winners of the “RWJF Hospital Price Transparency Challenge” will share $120,000 in prize money. Winners of the visualization component of the challenge will be announced at the Health 2.0 Fall Conference in October 2013. The deadline for submissions is August 25, 2013. (more…)

NIHCM Foundation Seek LOIs

The National Institute for Health Care Management (NIHCM) Foundation is accepting Letters of Inquiry (LOI) for research projects with the potential to improve the U.S. healthcare system. Through their research grant program, the Foundation will award up to $150,000 in two or three grants. (more…)
