The Trenton Health Team (THT) in the Trenton Public Schools has been awarded a five year $300,000 grant by the Princeton Area Community Foundations’s “All Kids Thrive” https://pacf.org/all-kids-thrive initiative. The plan is to combat absenteeism in the Trenton school system by transforming the lives of people living in poverty which is one of the top risk factors for chronic student absenteeism. (more…)

Initiative to Create Pediatric Network
The “Cancer Moonshot” initiative to accelerate progress in cancer research and encourage greater collaboration and sharing of data, has now moved from planning to research. A research project funded by the National Cancer Institute https://www.cancer.gov is working on “Creating a Pediatric Immunotherapy Discovery and Development Network” (PI-DDN) to address immunotherapy in children. VA Patient Safety Centers Receive Funds
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) https://www.va.gov selected 10 VA ‘Patient Safety Centers of Inquiry” (PSCI) for funding https://www.patientsafety.va.gov/professionals.centers.asp over the next three years to research and develop innovations to help improve patient safety throughout the VA.
Space Institute Calling for Proposals
The Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH) at Baylor College of Medicine is funded by NASA along with consortium partners at the California Institute of Technology and MIT. TRISH seeks and funds high risk, high reward, exceptional, and efficient solutions to protect human health in space. Studying Newborns’ Weight Issues
Weight loss is normal for healthy newborns in the first few days especially for babies exclusively breastfed. While this dip in weight is normal, it can be stressful for parents and family members and in some cases, lead to hyperbilirubinemia and dehydration. (more…)
