Innovate Kidney Care to Help Patients

Intermountain Healthcare https://intermountainhealthcare.org, has joined eight leading diversified healthcare organizations to launch Innovate Kidney Care to improve patient options for receiving home dialysis training and support.

The Innovate Kidney Care https://innovatekidneycare.com, campaign is supported by not only Intermountain but also the American Society of Nephrology, Anthem Inc., Cricket Health, CVS Kidney Care, Home Dialyzors United, National Kidney Foundation, Outset Medical, Inc. and Strive Health.

Today, safe and effective options for patients facing kidney failure to self-dialyze at home can offer numerous benefits as compared to in-clinic dialysis. However, these  home options are under-utilized in the U.S due to regulations developed decades ago before home dialysis was a widely available option.

For example, the existing Conditions for Coverage apply a one size fits all set of requirements whether dialysis takes place in a clinic or at home. Navigating these requirements can be complex for providers and make it difficult for organizations to offer self-dialysis options which leaves large patient populations without access to these benefits.

Kidney Care’s goal is to empower patients regardless of race, ethnicity, or income to have a choice in adopting home dialysis.

Innovate Kidney Care’s group of industry organizations are going to advocate for CMS to modernize the End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Conditions for Coverage and provide guidance to achieve better patient outcomes, improve the patient and healthcare practitioner experience, and lower the cost of care.

According to Tonya Saffer, Spokesperson for Innovate Kidney Care, “We now have new patient-centered dialysis technologies so that healthcare providers who want to provide more options for where and how self-dialysis can be trained and supported.”
