Digital Magnifying for Mammography

The Inova Personalized Health Accelerator IPHA)  http://www.inovawpengine.com, a program fostering med-tech innovation in the Mid Atlantic, has invested in DeepLook Inc., http://deeplook.com. DeepLook, a health startup using medical imaging software is able to reveal features in mammograms that are typically beyond the range of human vision. The technology identifies difficult to see data currently hidden in radiological images.

The DeepLook software acts like a digital magnifying glass. Emerging new technologies particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI) can help identify areas of concern in mammograms. The software reveals what triggered the existing mammogram/computer system to mark a suspicious area.

The medical imaging software can render a vivid color image of the underlying morphology on the black and white mammogram, allowing radiologists to analyze and compare the features with greater clarity.

The software is a simple-to-use pop-up utility that works on any radiology workstation. Used as a post image acquisition, it does not require complex integration or alteration of any workflow or compliance protocols.

As a result, the software should improve health outcomes, minimize costs, reduce the number of false positives from mammography images, and decrease the number of unnecessary surgical procedures. It is expected that DeepLook will submit the technology to FDA for 510k review in 2019.

“DeepLook’s imaging software technology has the potential to significantly improve breast cancer detection,” said IPHA Director Rick Gordon. “We will be working closely with DeepLook to further develop and validate their technology”.
