Coalition Seeks to Improve CMMI

The coalition, “Healthcare Leaders for Accountable Innovation in Medicare”, representing patients, hospitals, physicians, and healthcare leaders has provided the new HHS Secretary Tom Price and Congressional leaders with ideas on how to improve the CMS Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) demonstration projects.

The coalition’s more than 35 organizations are calling for limited scale testing, voluntary participation in demonstration projects, greater transparency, stronger scientifically valid testing prior to expansion, and more collaboration with the private sector.

The organizations want to see participation in CMMI demonstration projects be voluntary for healthcare providers. They also want beneficiaries to be adequately educated about projects with assurances that their care quality and access will not be adversely affected.
