The “Children with Special Health Care Needs” (CSHCN) program operating within HRSA’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau seeks to develop a research network to help develop an effective system of care for children and youth with special healthcare needs.
The surprising fact is that nearly 20 percent of U.S. children under age 18 have special healthcare needs. Children and youth with special health care needs and their families often need services from multiple systems including healthcare and public health education systems plus mental health and social services.
HRSA’s Forecast www.grants.gov/custom/printForecastDetails.jsp for a future grant is estimated to be posted January 2017. HRSA is seeking applicants to develop the “Children with Special Health Care Needs Research Network (CSHCN-RN).
The goal for CSHCN-RN is to establish an interdisciplinary, multi-site, collaborative research network that will lead, promote, and coordinate national research activities aimed at building the evidence base for the effectiveness of the Core System Outcomes for CSHCN-RN.
The Network will conduct collaborative research studies to improve family professional partnerships for shared decision-making, research on how to deliver comprehensive care within a patient-centered medical home, look at the role of health insurance and gaps in insurance, research care and outcomes for CSHCN, and examine healthcare financing and provider reimbursement when caring for CSHCN within the family-centered medical home.
