RFI for Emerging Technologies

According to the Request for Information (RFI) titled “Healthcare Emerging Technology” (N62645-17-R-0013) posted on December 8, 2016 www.fbo.gov, the Surgeon General of the Navy seeks to improve digital innovation in medicine.

As the Millennial population adopts new technologies, they expect the Navy’s healthcare providers to use these technologies to deliver care as well as use technology to assist in patient self-health management. Navy Medicine therefore needs an infusion of new ideas, experiences, approaches, products and services from outside of the Military health system and the healthcare field.

Navy Medicine seeks information on the following emerging technologies needed to deliver healthcare:

  • Internet of Things—Devices for individuals to include wearables, implantables, ingestibles, for use in the internal environment such as in the home, business, vehicle, or the external environment
  • Mobile Computing—Includes technology to allow the transmission of data, voice, and video via a computer or any other wireless enabled device without being connected to a fixed physical link. This also includes app development and use
  • Digital to Physical—Focus can be on robotics, 3D printing, development of biological synthetics, or the emerging discipline that uses engineering principles to design and assemble biological components
  • Social Media—Computer mediated tools that enable people or companies to create, share, or exchange information and videos in virtual communities and networks
  • Algorithms/Artificial Intelligence—Ways to advance Machine Learning and Deep Learning for any computation, formula, or statistical survey
  • Virtual Reality—Focus on augmenting Virtual Reality (VR) is a way to provide a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment when supplemented by computer-generated sensory input
  • Big Data—Seeking new ways for Big Data to analyze and capture data, plus new ways to  search, share, store, transfer and deal with information privacy
