New Funding Opportunity

NIST within the Department of Commerce www.nist.gov  implemented the “National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace” (NSTIC) program and has just issued their 2nd solicitation for pilot funding for the 2016 “Federated Identity in Healthcare Pilot Program”.

NSTIC is focused on streamlining the way that patients and providers access health information from different organizations online. The pilot’s goal is to enable users of health information to easily be able to access health data that is kept private, secure, interoperable, cost-effective, and easy-to-use.

Today, patients and providers have to obtain new identity credentials to access health information at different organizations. The pilot program would enable patients and providers to use a single credential that would provide access to health medical records.

For the 2016 pilot solicitation, NIST anticipates funding one award in the range of $750,000 to $1,000,000 for 18 months. To be eligible, applicants must be hospitals or healthcare systems consisting of multiple hospitals, ambulatory sites, clinics, or similar healthcare facilities.

The Office of the National Coordinator will be collaborating with NIST on the pilot and will help review applications and provide technical support. Applicants may be for-profit, not-for-profit, or governmental entities, but must partner with at least one other healthcare organization in their locality or region, that must be organizationally independent of the applicant.

The deadline to apply is June 1, 2016 and an applicant conference webinar will be held on April 18, 2016 from 3:00 to 4:30 P.M Eastern Time.
