On January 19th, the “College of Healthcare Information Management Executives” (CHIME) http://chimecentral.org held a press conference at the National Press Club to launch the $1 million “CHIME National Patient ID Challenge”.
The “Challenge” a global competition is aimed at incentivizing new, early-stage, and experienced innovators to accelerate and adopt a solution for ensuring 100 percent accuracy in identifying patients in the U.S.
Healthcare organizations spend a lot of time using and perfecting complicated algorithms that use many different pieces of information to ensure the patient standing in front of them is the same person found in their system. Also, trying to delete duplicate errors and match records from one healthcare provider to another for every patient takes an inordinate amount of time.
CHIME believes that technology is already available to solve the patient identification program but hasn’t yet been put together in a viable and scalable solution. Therefore, what is needed is for stakeholders, patients, providers, technology companies, government, and others to agree on a standard way to accurately and safely identify patients.
CHIME will be partnering with HeroX for the National Patent ID Challenge. HeroX has the expertise since HeroX has featured several challenges such as IGNITE to create the M App of the Future.
Two hundred innovators so far have expressed interest in following the challenge. In May, CHIME will announce those innovators that are moving on to the Concept Bliz Round with finalists to be named in the fall. The winner of the $1 million competition will be honored at the 2017 CHIME/HIMSS CIO Forum.
