Agencies within HHS are planning to publish a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to solicit applications for an emergency care clinical trials network entitled “Strategies to Innovate Emergency Care Clinical Trials” (SIREN) (NOT-NS-15-023).
The agencies involved within HHS include the National Institute of Neurologic Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) www.ninds.nih.gov, National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) www.nhlbi.nih.gov, National Center for Advancing Translational Science (NCATS) http://ncats.nih.gov, and the Office of Emergency Care Research (OECR) within the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) www.nugms.nih.gov.
The network will have a Clinical Coordinating Center (CCC), a Data Coordinating Center (DCC) and multiple Regional Clinical Centers with their clinical sites linked. The network will execute trials to treat patients with traumatic, neurologic, cardiac, pulmonary hematologic medical, and surgical emergencies.
There will be three FOAs for the emergency care network, one for the CCC, one for the DCC, and one for the Regional Clinical Centers. The FOA for the DCC is expected to be posted in November 2015 with the application due date to be March 2016.
Eligible organizations include governments, institutions of higher education, Native American tribal organizations, nonprofits, for profits, small businesses, plus others. This notice is being provided early so that potential applicants will have sufficient time to develop collaborations and responsive projects.
