  • New Directions Technology Consulting and iRX Reminder (www.iRxReminder.com) developing bidirectional smartphone-based solutions will be exhibiting in the ATA Pavilion plus iRX Reminder will also present at the Venture Telemedicine Fair on May 5th. Both companies are collaborating on developing software and devices that incorporate the intellectual property of iRx Reminder and the mMed mobile medication management patent portfolio

  • Stop by Booth #1343 to  talk to the AMC Health (www.amchealth.com) team to discuss how best to design and execute telehealth programs specific to the customer’s specific needs. The technology is able to bridge the gap between the hospital, doctor’s office, and the patient’s home by using remote patient monitoring solutions that are proven, scalable, and customized to meet the needs of the patient and customers

 

  • Go to Booth #1628 to be introduced to EyePrevent powered by the EasyScan Retinal Imaging System. i-Optics (www.i-optics.com) is improving DR evaluation rates through retinal imaging with remote expert interpretation

 

  • Tely Labs (www.tely.com) will showcase their new telyMed™ MTS-100 Mobile Station, an integrated telemedicine workstation in booth #511. The integrated telemedicine workstation is designed to meet the needs of healthcare providers for security, mobility, and ease-of-use at the point-of-care, at less than half the cost of existing mobile telemedicine carts.

NIST Plans for FFRDC

The Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has plans to establish a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC). This will be the first FFRDC solely dedicated to enhancing the security of the nation’s information systems. (more…)

State Insurance Marketplace Update

The Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace will start enrolling October 2013 with the total exchange enrollment expected to be 486,000. However, the state does not have the legislative authority to run a State-Based Marketplace, so the state will be assisted by the federal government in its implementation. According to April issue of HFS e-news, at this time, the Federal government is building the Marketplace web site and setting up a call center. (more…)

New Legislation Introduced

Representative John Carter from Texas plus other Representatives introduced the “CAL Undiagnosed Diseases Research and Collaboration Network Act of 2013” (H.R. 1591) on April 17th to establish an undiagnosed diseases network.

The purpose for the bill is to:

  • Help physicians who handle cases of undiagnosed diseases search for similar cases and to be able to network and collaborate with the physicians handling similar cases
  • Help physicians examine cross-distance research so that cases of undiagnosed diseases can be cross-referenced against attributes of common diseases
  • Be able to better describe the types and prevalence of cases of undiagnosed diseases in the U.S
  • Obtain data such as genetic, environmental, and occupational factors that may be associated  with the various types of undiagnosed diseases
  • Be able to outline key demographic factors affecting undiagnosed diseases such as age, race or ethnicity, gender, sex geographic location, and family medical history
  • To better understand the length of time needed to render a diagnosis
  • Provide information on programs similar to the Undiagnosed Disease Program at NIH

 

NIH may award grants or contracts and cooperative agreements may be offered to the public or private nonprofit entities to collect, analyze, and report on data. The proposed legislation authorizes $5,000,000 for fiscal years 2014 through 2019.

New HIT Workgroup Formed

A new health IT workgroup will have an initial meeting to identify what is needed to improve patient safety and promote innovation in health IT including mobile medical applications. The workgroup will report to the Health IT Policy Committee which advises the Office of the National Coordinator for HIT. (more…)

Help for TBI Researchers

The Federal Interagency Traumatic Brain Research (FITBIR) database is a collaborative effort by NIH and the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) to develop a biomedical information system and data repository for TBI research.

FITBIR, an informatics system is a free web-based resource enabling data to be shared with methodologies and associate tools rather than just provide summaries of the information. (more…)
