The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) within the Department of Commerce on 11/22/21 published a Request for Information in the Federal Register seeking data from the public and private sector.
NIST along with other agencies has been directed to complete a study on eight emerging technologies to include information on public and private sector marketplace trends supply chain risks, and legislative policy.
NIST also invites stakeholders in the scientific research, standards, advocacy industry and non-scientific communities including the general public to provide input and future investment needs for emerging technologies.
NIST will issue the report on the following eight emerging technology areas:
- The state of the artificial intelligence industry
- The use of internet-connected devices and internet-connected solutions in manufacturing in the U.S.
- The state of the quantum computing industry
- The state of the blockchain technology industry and the impact on the U.S economy
- The state of new and advanced materials industry including synthetically derived materials or those with enhanced natural properties
- The impact of unmanned delivery services on businesses conducting interstate commerce
- The state of the internet-connected devices industry
- The state of the three-dimensional printing industry
