FDA Issues Funding Notice

The Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) RFA-FD-22-003 was posted September 21, 2021, through FDA’s Office of Minority Health and Health Equity (OMHHE) titled Innovation Award: COVID-19 and Health Equity.

The FDA Office of Minority Health and Health Equity OMHHE works with FDA Centers and external partners to support research studies on minority health and health disparities. The FOA seeks innovative ways to advance COVID-19 health equity research. FDA/OMHHE intends to fund up to $5,000,000 for FY 2022 to support this program. It is anticipated that up to 5 awards will be made, not to exceed $1,000,000 in total costs.

The following studies are encouraged under this FOA:

  • Proposals that advance diversity in COVID-19/COVID-19 variant clinical trials
  • Proposals that advance equity in COVID-19 data including efforts that increase evidence to support evaluation of outcomes of FDA-regulated products by demographic data but not limited to ethnicity, race, age, and geography
  • Proposals with big data, novel data sources and artificial intelligence/machine learning options to contribute to informing the evaluation of the safety and efficacy of FDA-approved products
  • Proposals that increase the understanding of diverse voices affected by COVID-19, including efforts that support research novel data sources to understand diverse patient preferences and unmet need or and/or support expansion of culturally and linguistically tailed education

 

Eligible organizations include higher education institution, nonprofits, for-profits including small businesses, plus other organizations
