$19 Million to Expand Telehealth

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) https://www.hrsa.gov within HHS, with funding from the Administration, is going to provide key investments to strengthen telehealth services in rural and underserved communities and expand telehealth innovation and quality nationwide.

Funding for over $19 million will be used to help 35 award recipients make key investments through the following telehealth programs:

  • Telehealth Technology-Enabled Learning Program (TTELP)—Approximately $4.28 million is being awarded to nine health organizations to build sustainable telementoring programs and networks in rural and medically underserved communities. The funding will help specialists at academic medical centers provide training and support to primary care providers in rural, frontier, and other underserved areas to help patients with complex conditions
  • 12 regional & 2 National Telehealth Resource Centershttps://www.hrsa.gov/rural-health/telehealth/resource-centers have been awarded $4.55 million. Each regional TRC will offer a wide range of assistance targeted to local community needs
  • Evidence Based Direct to Consumer Telehealth Network Program (EB-TNP)– Approximately $3.85 million is being awarded to 11 organizations to help health networks increase access to telehealth services and assess the effectiveness of telehealth care for patients, providers, and payers. The EB TNP will expand health services access in primary care, acute care, and behavioral healthcare
  • Telehealth Centers of Excellence (COE) Program—The COE program will be awarded $6.5 million to two organizations to assess telehealth strategies and services in order to improve healthcare in rural medically underserved areas that have high chronic disease prevalence and high poverty rates. The COEs are going to be located in academic medical centers to serve as telehealth incubators to pilot new telehealth services, track outcomes, and publish telehealth research
