In April, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) https://www.pcori.org approved more than a dozen high priority research topics for PCORI’s Funding Announcements (PFA) through 2022.
The topics range from healthy aging to preventing drug addiction among adolescents, telehealth, racism, and discrimination throughout the healthcare continuum.
With the Board’s approval, PCORI will continue to seek and work with input from patients and other healthcare decision makers to refine specific research questions for proposed timely topics.
So far, topics approved by PCORI’s Board of Governors were announced ahead of issuing PFAs to provide more time for researchers working together so patients and communities would be able to focus on specific conditions and issues when developing patient-centered proposals.
The first PFAs to include calls for research proposals on approved topics will be issued fall 2021. The topic Leveraging Telehealth for Chronic Disease Management Among Vulnerable Populations with Complex Needs may be included in the PFAs.
According to PCORI Executive Director, Nakela L. Cook, MD, “The topics discussed by the Board of Governors emerged from previous stakeholder input on priority evidence gaps and concerns.”
