Johns Hopkins Helps Communities

The Johns Hopkins Clinical Research Network (JHCRN) a regional research organization links Johns Hopkins Medicine with a network of community-based healthcare delivery systems to enable researchers to have a collaborative research infrastructure.

JHCRN aims to enhance the flow of scientific information by supporting multisite clinical, translational, and pragmatic research. JHCRN sites include Luminis Health, TidalHealth, Reading Hospital, an affiliate of Tower Health, and George Mason University.

JHCRN supports research identifying multi-site collaborative investigators that serve diverse patient populations in urban, rural, and suburban settings by pursuing funding opportunities for multi-site research.

One site is upgrading the use of telemedicine. The Reading Hospital Foundation recently received a $320,694 Impact Grant from the United Way of Berks County to help fund the Street Medicine Program to begin offering  telemedicine services.

The Street Medicine Program is going to hire a Clinical Director and RN Case Manager to grow and enhance the program by helping to treat patients in the community, treat inpatients, and treat patients in virtual environments.

Grant funding will also support development of the Street Medicine Consult Program to provide comprehensive patient education and case management services. The Street Medicine Program uses a team approach to deliver primary, preventative care to the unsheltered homeless and those at high risk of being homeless.

In addition, JHCRN has a program called the Research Accelerator and Mentorship Program which provides grants for one or two projects for up to $50,000 over a 12 month period. Proposals including clinical and community based research, practice-based research, and health services research are encouraged. JHCRN affiliated institutions include Anne Arundel Medical Center, Inova Health System Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Reading Health System and Allegheny Health System.
