MCD’s Focus on Telehealth

Medical Care Development, Inc., (MCD) https://www.MCD.org a global public health organization and a national Public Health Institute program is headquartered in Maine.

MCD is working with the HRSA funded Northeast Telehealth Resource Center (NETRC) http://www.NETRC.org, to increase access to quality healthcare services for rural and underserved populations via telehealth.

NETRC is also working with MCD in collaboration with the New York State Department of Health on the New York State Telehealth Training Portal to deliver peer-reviewed telehealth education to the healthcare workforce across the state. The project’s website is endorsed by the Reimagine New York Commission.

The project provides educational topics related to telehealth and to behavioral health providers across the state, as well as students, administrative leaders, and others who support and enable telehealth services to the healthcare workforce in New York State. The Telehealth Education Advisory Group will establish training modules to address the full scope of the telehealth program implementation, management, and practice.

NETRC formed the Maine eConsult Network (MEeCN) in 2020. The primary goal for MEeCN is to improve healthcare access for the most rural and medically underserved areas in Maine through their new eConsult model. MEcCN’s key partners represent some of northern Maine’s most essential healthcare provider organizations.

MEcCN aims to establish statewide adoption of eConsults, promote sustainability by leveraging the state’s policy landscape for eConsult reimbursements. eConsults have been shown to extend the scope of primary care providers, decrease low value unnecessary or inappropriate specialty appointments, increase efficiency to establish diagnosis and treatments, create cost savings, and has increased care coordination.
