TEDCO https://www.tedcomd.com located in Columbia Maryland, identifies, invests in, and helps grow technology companies in Maryland. The company has announced their recent round of investments to six startup companies and funding to fifteen university projects through the Maryland Innovation Initiative (MII) https://www.tedcomd.com/funding/tech-transfer/maryland-innovation-initiative.
In the eight years since the MII launch, MII has disbursed $39 million de-risked 252 unique technologies and created 102 startups. MII portfolio of startups have raised over $476 million in follow-on funding.
As startup companies join TEDCO’s MII portfolio, the companies have access to TEDCO resources. The assistance provided includes assistance through team building, balancing the funding elements, and negotiating deals.
An investment of $150,000 was made to the following six companies:
- EpiWatch a Johns Hopkins University spinout, has developed a mobile Disease Management (DM) software application for people with epilepsy that runs on a smartwatch and companion phone
- NuMoon Technologies LLC a University of Maryland, Baltimore County spinout, has commercialized innovative detection solutions to enhance the safety and security of military and civilian lives
- AliquantumRx, Inc a Johns Hopkins University spinout, is developing the antibiotic, Cethromycin for the treatment of dormant malaria
- Softread Inc. a University of Maryland, Baltimore County spinout, is building a scalable block chain system
- Astek Diagnostics LLC, a University of Maryland Baltimore County spinout, has developed an automated system capable of determining the existence of bacteria in a blood sample and perform antibiotic susceptibility testing in less than one hour
- Vectech LLC, a Johns Hopkins University spinout, is developing an AI-driven computer vision system to empower public health organizations to fight mosquito borne diseases globally
