FCC Adds Funds for Rural Health

The FCC https://www.fcc.gov has directed the Universal Service Administrative Company https://usac.org, administering the FCC’s Rural Health Care Program to use up to $197.98 million in unused funds from prior years to meet FY 2020 demand for the Rural Health Care Program.

The Rural Health Care Program currently made up of the Healthcare Connect Fund Program and the Telecommunications Program, provides funding to eligible healthcare providers for telecommunications and broadband services needed to provide health care.

Eligible healthcare providers include post-secondary educational institutions offering healthcare instruction, teaching hospitals, medical schools, community health centers, health centers providing healthcare to migrants, local health departments, community mental health centers, not-for-profit hospitals, rural health clinics, skilled nursing facilities, and a consortium of healthcare providers.

The Rural Health Care program funding cap for FY 2020 is $604.76 million. But with the current announcement, the total amount of support available to eligible healthcare providers for FY 2020 will be $802.74 million.
