Building HIV/AIDS Data Resources

The HIV/AIDS pandemics have been a serious threat to global health for decades. However, rapid advancements in HIV/AIDS research has generated a significant amount of knowledge in the field. AHRQ’s study funded for $290,000 will look at how to provide more data to the HIV/AIDS providers and the community.

The study “Disseminating Evidence-Based Clinical Guidelines through Integrated Technologies” (R24HS022057) was awarded to the University of Rochester’s School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2013. The study ongoing until 2016 will look at how to build better HIV/AIDS information resources for healthcare providers, healthcare organizations, and to specific user communities.

One of the goals for the research study is to develop a partnership with multiple stakeholders and networks in New York State. This will help to disseminate evidence-based HIV/AIDS clinical practice guidelines to healthcare providers by integrating various information technologies and social media.

Secondly, the researchers will conduct research through multidisciplinary collaborations to transform the original text guidelines to user friendly online resources, multimedia learning modules, interactive patient simulation, and clinical decision tools as well as work with behavioral interventions.

The next step will be to build an online repository of HIV/AIDS information products to address specific clinical problems, target different audiences, and deliver information through not only the web but also mobile devices, social networks, professional education programs, and through quality improvement systems.

Lastly, the researchers will assess the usability and usage of innovative information products and evaluate their impact on knowledge translations, healthcare processes, and clinical outcomes for individual care providers, healthcare organizations, and specific user communities.
