Louisiana’s Current Initiatives

The Louisiana Health Care Quality Forum e-News reports that the Louisiana Health Information Exchange (LaHIE) is expected to launch their Patient Portal this summer enabling consumers to have access to their personal EHRs.

A task force composed of stakeholders across the state identified the goals for a patient portal for Louisiana. One of the most important goals is to create a patient portal that is both cost-effective and accessible to providers across the state. Currently, LaHIE is finalizing the selection of a vendor to create the patient portal. Once the vendor has been chosen, the task force recommendations will be implemented.

LaHIE is will also launch a new level of analytics services this summer. One of these services will be piloted in the East Baton Rouge Parish and will focus on emergency department utilization.

By using these analytics services, high volume diagnoses and potentially preventable emergency department visits within a given population will be identified. Once the data is compiled, the data will be used to help develop quality programs and measures at the community level to establish case management resources.

Other analytics services that will be available through LaHIE in the coming months will include population health management registries, predictive analytics and risk management, utilization and performance management data, and point-of-care decision support.

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals is working to create strategies to restructure the delivery of Medicaid services to individuals receiving Medicaid-funded Long Term Services and Supports (LTSS).

The objectives are to improve quality and health outcomes, decrease fragmentation, improve coordination of care, utilize proven and/or promising practices, refocus the system to increase choice, provide more robust living options, and rebalance the system to meet the growing demand for services.
