The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) https://www.hitlab.org, the City’s primary vehicle for promoting economic growth in each of the boroughs is partnering with HITLAB https://www.hitlab.org, an organization offering digital health research, advice, and teaching services to improve health delivery. The goal is to help organizations create and diffuse technology-based technology solutions to solve pressing healthcare challenges.
NYCEDC and HITLAB announced startups for the “Digital Health Breakthrough Network” an initiative for startups to pilot their products with end-users and strengthen their connection to the New York City healthcare and technology sectors.
As a result of the program eight companies from previous years, have created 41 new jobs, raised $2.5 million in funds, served 119 patients in healthcare facilities and worked with 88 clinicians in the product testing process.
The latest class of startups are developing technologies such as:
- Biotia is working on DNA sequencing technology and artificial intelligence software to help identify pathogens and drug resistance markers to prevent hospital acquired infections
- Soundmind is developing a voice assistant tool to support the care of older adults.
- OpticSurg is developing an augmented reality software tool to support surgical procedures
- KnowNOW, is developing a telehealth platform that will provide testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases and has plans to accelerate and pilot their product
