The National Telecommunications and Information Administration within the Department of Commerce https://www.ntia.doc.gov has awarded 46 grants under the “State and Local Implementation Grant Program” (SLIGP) to help states and territories prepare for FirstNet’s buildout of the nation’s public safety broadband network.
The SLIGP 2.0 awards will enable public safety entities and personnel across the nation to continue working with FirstNet as it implements the nationwide public safety broadband network.
The initial funding totaled $12.6 million, however, the second funding increment is expected to be disbursed in the last quarter of 2018 where funding will deliver another $20 to $22 million for grant awards. Grant awards after March 1, 2018, range from $425,000 to $200,000 with the award to the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection at $61,587.
The grant awards went to the states of Alabama, Arizona California, Connecticut, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire New Jersey, New York, Nevada North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming. Grants also went to American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S Virgin Islands.
