The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse prevention (CSAP) is accepting applications for FY 2018 for the funding notice “Improving Access to Overdose Treatment” or referred to as (OD Treatment Access).
SAMSHA will award OD Treatment Access funds specifically to FQHCs, Opioid Treatment Programs, or to practitioners who have a waiver to prescribe buprenorphine or have expanded access to FDA’s approved drugs or devices for emergency treatment for known or suspected opioid overdose.
SAMSHA’s Opioid Overdose Prevention toolkit developing in 2013 will be utilized by the OD Treatment Access grant program plus other resource to help the recipients train and provide resources for healthcare providers and pharmacists. This is needed when prescribing drugs or devices approved or cleared under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to treat suspected opioid overdoses in emergencies.
The OD Treatment Access grant program will require grant recipients to connect patients who have experienced a drug overdose with treatment, including medication-assisted treatment, along with counseling and behavioral therapies.
The anticipated total available funding is up to $940,000 with five awards anticipated for the award amount up to $200,000. The Funding Opportunity announcement was posted on https://www.samhsa.gov.grants.grant-announcements/sp-18-006. Applications are due June 4, 2018. For more information, email Tonia F.
