AI Helps Blind & Visually Impaired

AT&T https://www.att.com provides wireless connectivity to Aira https://www.ariasystems.com, a startup, to support their technology platform so Aira can assist the blind and visually impaired. Aira has developed transformative remote assistive technology by connecting the blind with a network of certified agents via wearable voice first smart glasses.

Via the smart glasses, Aria is able to be activated through one touch of a button or simply by saying “Hey Chloe” which activates the AI assistant. The agents serve as visual interpreters for people who are blind helping them to accomplish a wide range of tasks and activities such as navigating busy streets or airports to running a marathon.

The goal is to develop Aira’s Horizon Smart Glasses complete with built-in “Hey Chloe” functionality, and then pair the glasses with an Aira-dedicated smartphone powered by AT &T.

Horizon will provide an integrated connected solution to enable the blind or people with low vision to take advantage of the Aira service regardless of whether or not they already own a smartphone.

AT&T and Aira are developing and testing their new AI Powered Prescription Medication Reader to help individuals that are blind or visually impaired better manage their prescription medications. Correctly reading the dosage instructions and other information printed on their labels is vital. AT&T Foundry is developing the solution.
